THIRAVIAM TOURIST HOME

The renowned lodge Thiraviam Tourist home of the 1970�s was constructed by my grandfather late Sri .N.Thiraviam (a pioneer Chemist and Druggist ,Thiraviam Medicals Nagercoil,Kanyakumari District) to fulfil his dream to hold a property in a holy sacred place. From the time of its inception Thiraviam Tourist Home catered to the needs and demands of various tourists and pilgrims who found themselves in a home away from home, in the rightly named THIRAVIAM TOURIST HOME. \n \nThe lodge was a kind of self contained apartments, three on the ground floor and three on the first floor. Each apartment had facilities for the visitors even to cook their own food. It was so spacious and self contained that it could accommodate about 10 members of a group or family. It was well appreciated by the tourists; it was an antique version of today�s service apartment. \n \nMy late father Dr T. Muthusivam (Thiraviam clinic ,Vadasery ,Nagercoil) took over the management of the lodge after my grandfather. A doctor very much dedicated to his profession, he could not concentrate on the lodge to keep it functioning at its best. So he rented out the six apartments on monthly payments. \n \nNow I, Dr M.Thiraviam Mohan a practising Paediatrician, have inherited the lodge from my father. Our large family is deeply attached to the lodge. We have fond memories to cherish. We used to gather at the lodge during Suchindram car festival and spent a lovely day sharing the accommodation, connecting , interacting and enjoying every minute with relatives and friends. \n \nWe decided to have the lodge resurrected in commemoration of my grandfather and with its original name unchanged. My wife Dr.G.Muthu Shoba Mohan being an architect was very passionate to retain the homely atmosphere created earlier by our grandfather with the cultural and heritage values conserved .She with her team of renowned Architects, Artists ,experienced Engineers and skilled technicians have renovated the sturdy Ancient Building keeping the initial infrastructure intact, with great dedication. Modifications have been made only to the interiors keeping the external structure intact. The refurbished building retains its cultural heritage to suit the vernacular architecture of south Tamil Nadu and today we have amenities to suit most of the needs of the modern day tourists. The Travancore Architectural style has been recreated. The furniture have been especially handpicked from Karaikudi, Tamilnadu. \n \nWith the blessings of our forefathers we have restarted the functioning of Thiraviam Tourist Home.
