About

The genesis of the building dates back to 1893 when the land and building which was being constructed was given as a wedding gift to Ms. Jane Miranda by her mother Mrs. Maria Jeswanth Norona, a Franco Indian lady. Jane married Dr. Joseph Raymond Dais, an Indian of Portuguese descent, who later became the Chief Medical Officer of Travancore. The building was then leased to the British Postal Department to function as an Imperial post office". In1934, Mr. B. S. Sankaran Nair started Trivandrum Brahmins Hotel - however it was the social magnate Late Sri KC Pillai who transformed the home-away-from-home clich into truth for his political and literary friends. The restaurant soon became renowned for both the sumptuous ethnic Kerala food it served as well as the part it played as a host facilitating political and cultural discourse among the titans of the day. More than a hotel it was a cultural centre which played a key role in the history of Travancore city. \n \nIt gained reputation as a centre of socialization and attracted eminent guests which included political leaders like M/s C.Achuta Menon, EMS Nampoodiripad, K. Karunakaran, N.K Seshan, C.K. Mani, Kunjuraman Nambiar, DR. G. Ramachandran, A.P. Udayabhanu, M.P. Manmadhan and D. Damodaran Potti; literary giants like Sri. G. Sankara Kurup, Kuroor Neelakantan Nampoodiri, P. Kunjuraman Nair, Uroob, Vailoppilly Sreedhara Menon, Thakazhy, Kesava Dev, Kunjunni Mash, V.T. Induchoodan, S. Guptan Nair; artists like Jaya Vijayans, Vidyadharan, M.G. Radhakrishnan and Guru Gopinath; dramatists like Kainikkara Brothers, N. Krishna Pillai, T. N. Gopinathan Nair and T.R. Sukumaran Nair and spiritual leaders like Swamy Brahmavrathan, Vedabandhu and Swamy Yathi. \nRecently the Hotel has undergone extensive renovation, incorporating state of the art facilities and amenities that conform to latest international standards. The traditional charm and glory has been retained and refined to create a luxurious experience with a true Travancore flavor. \nThe hotel consists of its signature authentic travancore cuisine restaurant, a vegetarian fusion restaurant, a non-vegetarian fast food open kitchen, juice and Ice cream corner, conference Rooms, 19 fully air-conditioned guest rooms and other facilities to cater to guests staying for both business and pleasure. \n \n

This is one of the oldest and well-known hotels in Trivandrum, located near Statue Junction. It has played an important role in Travancore's historic moments. The rooms are clean, decent, and spacious, with moderate prices.

Trivandrum Hotel, located near the Secretariat in the heart of the city, used to be a great spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner at affordable prices. Unfortunately, I'm really disappointed that the place has lost its charm and is showing signs of decline. \nI hope the management will take proactive steps to bring back its former glory. The ACs need to be fixed, the dining area could use some improvements, and the staff should be more active and customer-friendly. It's a beautiful property that can be profitable again with a little more effort.

I had a very bad experience at QNINE / Trivandrum Hotel. The food was tasteless and they didn't maintain even the minimum standards for serving. We went as a family for lunch, but there was not enough food and it lacked basic taste. They didnt even have the courtesy to inform us about it in advance. \nThe service was awful. Only one person was taking all the orders, and he was clearly overworked. The senior staff members were just giving orders and blaming the poor service guy in front of customers. When I spoke to the manager, it was a very disappointing interaction. They were defensive and didnt seem to care about keeping their customers happy. \nI strongly recommend trying another restaurant in Trivandrum. This place should be your last option.
